Yapahuwa Rock Fortress
Yapahuwa was the capital of Sri Lanka during the latter part of the 13 th century (1273 – 1284). Built on a huge 90m high rock, it was a military stronghold and is renowned as an archeological treasure. There is a stupa, a Bhodi tree and a cave shelter at the top of the complex. At the foot of the rock there are two caves containing a Buddhist shrine and rock inscriptions.
